The University of Maryland is strongly committed to maximizing the opportunities for small, minority, women-owned and veteran-owned businesses in our procurement process. The Department of Procurement & Business Services routinely solicits from these businesses, and makes certain they are included in the award of contracts wherever possible. Campus departments are also expected to seek out these businesses as they make purchases using the Pcard, and while developing purchase orders.
Working together, we will be able to meet the following goals:
- Placing 29% of our purchases with Maryland Department of Transportation certified minority suppliers. The MBE Program goal helps ensure inclusiveness for socially and economically disadvantaged small businesses. They are included in our procurement opportunities directly as prime contractors or indirectly as subcontractors.
- Placing 15% of purchases with Small Business Reserve businesses
- Placing 1% of purchases with veteran-owned businesses
